THE VISION

Jahanara Arif Ijaz was a vibrant soul who left an indelible mark on everyone she met. A brilliant student, ace debater, passionate artist, sensitive poet, and gifted actor, she shone brightly in all her endeavours. Tragically, her life was cut short on March 4, 2005, at the age of sixteen, due to inadequate emergency services and the negligence of hospital staff in Lahore.
Her untimely passing was a devastating loss for her parents. Yet, despite their unbearable grief, they have ensured that Jahanara’s legacy lives on. Their efforts to improve critical emergency services and educate Pakistan’s next generation stand as a testament to her spirit. Jahanara’s memory continues to inspire and drive positive change in the community, reflecting her love, compassion, and unwavering care for others, especially the less privileged.

STORIES

From Crisis to Recovery
A young mother from Chunian brought her 7-month-old baby to the JMT Emergency Room situated in Fatima Memorial Hospital. The infant was suffering from a high fever and severe dehydration. Thanks to JMT’s fund for underprivileged families, the baby received immediate care, including a comprehensive battery of tests free of charge. Initially stabilized, the child was sent home but soon worsened due to excessive heat and an inability to digest breast milk.
The mother returned to the ER, where further tests and observation revealed the child needed intensive care. After consulting with the Pediatric Department, the baby was admitted to the ICU. With advanced treatments, including lifesaving injections to stabilize her lungs and fever, the infant’s condition gradually improved.
One month of dedicated care transformed the severely ill baby into a healthy, giggling infant. Now six years old, she attends school and helps with small household chores. Though her growth and mental development remain slightly delayed due to her past illness, she continues to visit JMT for routine checkups. Seeing her smile today is a testament to the life-changing impact of JMT’s support.

Nurturing Young Lives
JMT partners with the Learning Hub, an inner-city school, to provide weekly medical checkups for 10-15 students from underprivileged backgrounds. These visits ensure early detection and treatment of health issues while fostering better overall well-being. Alongside medical care, the children enjoy lunch on the premises, a small but vital step towards better health and nutrition.
One remarkable case is Zainab, a student who suffered from chronic intestinal issues due to malnutrition. Additionally, she struggled with low self-esteem and emotional challenges. JMT’s holistic approach provided her with medical treatment, nutritional support, and psychological counselling. Over time, Zainab grew stronger and more confident, winning the hearts of everyone involved. Today, she continues to thrive, a shining example of the power of compassion and care.

From Dreams to Reality
Amir Mehmood’s journey exemplifies JMT’s commitment to transforming lives through education. Growing up with limited financial resources, Amir’s dream of becoming a doctor seemed unattainable. However, with JMT’s sponsorship, he completed his MBBS and is now a radiologist working in the UK.
Reflecting on his journey, Amir shares:
“JMT supported my education with the vision to transform lives and create a better future for families and society. Thanks to their generosity, I now live in England with my family and ensure my children receive the best education. JMT taught me the value of learning for personal and professional growth. Their support changed my life, and I strive to pay it forward every day.”

A Pillar of Strength
Dr. Tooba, from a middle-class family in Southern Punjab, faced immense financial challenges in pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. However, with JMT’s unwavering support, she completed her MBBS and is now an independent, thriving medical professional.
“I am deeply grateful to JahanAra Memorial Trust for believing in my potential. Your generosity has not only helped me achieve my dream but has empowered me to support my family and give back to society. Your kindness has been the pillar of strength behind my success, and I hope to inspire others as JMT inspired me. Thank you for changing my life.”
